Request~ The Wars of Roses~

He watched him quietly walk into the classroom.  The American's blue eyes looking over his wire rimmed glasses at the boy that clutched his books to his chest.  And as the same thing before, he sat in the desk in front of him.  The boy's head turned to the side to watch out the window.

The American or Alfred wondered what could be so interesting that caused him to watch every day.  The blue eyed blond never had the courage to ask him even if he called himself the hero.

Moving his eyes from the clear window to the (h/c) hair of the boy, Alfred's bright baby blues moved from the messy mop of hair to the curve of his neck.

Without warning the boy shifted his weight and turned to face the door.  Alfred's concentration was broken as he looked at the papers on his desk.  But soon, he was looking again.  The boy removed his black framed glasses, he rubbed the sleep that remained in his (e/c) eyes that sparkled and danced under the fluorescent lights.

Biting his bottom lip, Alfred wondered if he dared to speak to this being in front of him.  There was something that made him even to apprehensive to ask for a pencil.  The pit of his stomach overturned in anticipation of putting his fear to the side.

"Alfie!"  The Dane with gravity defying hair landed soundly on top of the desk in front of Alfred.  "What's up today?"

"Did you guys see what Liz is wearing?"  In leaned the Prussian known as Gilbert.

And the three sets of eyes turned to look at the brunette that sat in the middle of the classroom surrounded by a few other girls.

"Mein Gott!"  Gilbert pined and rubbed the side of his face.  "Doesn't she look hot?!"

"I was looking more towards Lin Yi," Mathias winked a dark blue eye at the two.  "And let's not forget about Emma."  He purred seductively.

"Well, Al?"  Gilbert poked a long finger into the blonde's arm.  "Which one of these ladies gets your motor running?"

"Umm, well..."

He hadn't really ever paid attention to the girls in class.  But that had been something, if not everything, that his guy friends always talked about.  So being one of the 'guys' Alfred always followed their leads.  And he dated the cheerleaders, preps, and pretty ones.  But something deep inside told him it was just for appearance sake.

If his feelings were true, what would his friends say? They made wisecracks and jokes about things like this.  But it was getting harder and more painful in his soul to deny these feeling anymore.

"Take your seats you little brats!"  The teacher barked the usual orders at the students.  "This is more like a kindergarten class then a bunch of seniors!"

So another boring class on the world's past affairs.  Alfred fidgeted in his seat and watched the teacher drone on.   What a 'riveting' speech on the Wars of Roses.  Why would roses even fight?  Alfred wondered and sighed.

"And, Mr. Jones!"  The teacher spoke so loudly it caused Alfred's head to snap up from the drowsy stupor he was falling into.  "You need to see me after class.  And Mr. (l/n)!"

Alfred shifted his gaze to the boy that stiffened with the sound of his name.  He was something to really ponder to the American.   He seemed overly smart or maybe it was just the glasses.  But he always knew all the answer to the questions the teacher asked.  Band club, debate, and honor society type.  The complete opposite of the one behind him; sports, auto, and wood shop kind of guy.

On went the class, along with the nerves of Alfred that were on edge.  He wondered if the teacher had noticed him staring at the boy in front of him.  He could look, it didn't mean anything!  Right?

"You wanted to see me, teach?"  Alfred asked and leaned against the large pine desk in the front of the room.

(f/n) walked next to Al and shifted his eyes down.  The boy slowly brushed his hair from his eyes and then looked at the teacher that leaned back with his arms crossed.

"Yes," the older man frowned, "you're failing this class, Jones.  And if you don't get your grades up you'll be kicked off the football team.  You might be the star quarterback for the rest of the school, but that doesn't mean crap to me."

A frown tugged at Alfred's already down-turned smile.  He didn't need to be reminded again.  And this was the only class he was failing.

"And you know all this," the teacher waved his hand in the air to get the attention of both the boys.   "This is why I've asked (f/n) here too.  If it's alright with him and you, he can tutor you."  The teacher stood, pushing his chair out.  "Now you two figure it out and let me know."

Was this really happening?  I get to tutor Al?  The boy's stomach turned in excitement.

"Dude," Alfred pouted, "I can't fail!  I've gotta pass this class!"  He pushed the door open to the classroom and stopped in the hall.

(f/n) was on his heels and bumped into the back of Alfred.  He took a step back and blushed.  "I'm sorry."  He gave a meek response and held his books even tighter.  He always felt like such a klutz.

"It's fine."  Alfred made his way over to his locker and messed with the lock.  "I understand if you don't wanna tutor me.  It's fine really, but I gotta get to practice."

"I didn't say I won't!"  (f/n) defended his standing.  He didn't want to seem too pushy with him, but he also didn't want him to not take his help.  "I don't mind."

"Really?"  Alfred swung his book bag over his shoulder.  Rising an eyebrow he wondered why this boy would want to help him.  He wasn't mean to him.  Then again he never had acknowledged his existence either.  "Do you want to start today?"

"Sure!"  The boy gave a toothy smile.  "Do you…"

Alfred motioned with his hand to follow him.  "Come to football practice with me then. If I'm late then the coach is gonna have me running laps."  He snickered and lightly jogged down the empty hall.

"I'll meet you at the football field!"  (F/n) shouted down the hallway.

"I'm starved!"  Alfred walked out from the locker room.  He had taken a quick shower and changed before exiting with his friends.

(f/n) sitting against the wall and writing something in a notebook.

"I'm ready!"  Alfred stood above him.  "Wanna get something to eat?"

"Al?"  Gilbert asked.  Gilbert and Mathias stood behind Alfred with their arms crossed.  "What are you doing?"

"What?"  Alfred turned to face them.  "I told you two I need tutoring."

"Yeah?"  Mathias shrugged his shoulders.  "Have him do your homework and whatever.  We're going to the mall today!"

(f/n) frowned.  There went his chances of even talking with Al.  No doubt in his mind that these two would persuade the sapphire eyed blond away.

"That won't help me pass the test, man."  Alfred shoved his hands in his pockets.  "We can go another day."    He had forgotten about going to the mall and he really wanted too.  But he wasn't the type that would have someone else do his work for him.  And plus this gave him the perfect excuse to talk to him.

"Vhatever!"  Gilbert tossed his hand in the air.  "Vell see ya later, Al."

Off the two stormed out of sight of the two that stood together in the hall.

"I'm sorry your friends are mad at you."  (f/n) said sheepishly.

"Pssh!  They'll get over it!"  Alfred grinned.  "Would you like to get something to eat?"

(f/n) watched Alfred stuff a greasy burger into his mouth and grab at his soda that sat on the table.  Pulling out one of the textbooks he flipped open to a page they had been working on today.

"What do you remember about the Wars of Roses?"  (f/n) asked and scanned over the page in the textbook.

Alfred nervously laughed.  "Not that much."

"Did you even listen in class?"  (f/n) grimaced.

"To tell the truth…English history isn't my best subject."  Alfred crumpled the red and white burger wrapper in his hand and tossed it back on the tray.   "Who the heck cares about roses anyways?"

"Then let's start at the beginning, okay?"  The boy sighed in annoyance.   "And it was about the two houses of English fighting for the right of the throne.  The House of York and the House of Lancaster.  Then in the end the two houses were united and then came the House of Tudor."

"And how long did this all last?"  Alfred ripped into the other burger that sat on the tray.

"Around thirty years.  It had several major wars between the two in that time.  And we are coming to the end of it already in class, so we have to start at the beginning."   (f/n) took a sip of the drink in front of him.

For being so cute…he's kind of dumb. (f/n) groaned.  This was going to take a lot of work.

"And isn't your one stepbrother British?"  He suddenly realized that this shouldn't be such a foreign subject to him.

"Artie?"  Alfred clicked his tongue.  "I don't listen to him."

"Obviously."

They had been studying everyday for about a week and a half now.  And now they both sat around the coffee table in Alfred's living room going over the notes that (f/n) had taken.

Alfred was finally starting to understand why he had been staring at (f/n) all those times.  He had listened to him talk in the lunchroom or giving a report to the class.  But sitting here one on one with (f/n) proved to something completely different.  Each time their hands touched Alfred could feel a spark of something.

"Alfred?"  In walked his older brother Arthur.   "What are you doing?"

"Studying," Alfred rolled his eyes.  "What does it look like?"

Arthur looked over at the open textbook that sat on the table.  He chuckled and gave a noticeable smile.  "History that isn't from the Americans?"  He glanced up at the boy that sat silently across from the brothers.  "And you have a friend that knows something about it.  I'm shocked."

"Shut it," Alfred growled.  "Leave us alone."

"Hmmm," Arthur smiled with a certain thought on his mind.  "I see.  I've got to go to the store to buy some things for dinner.  Will you be okay by yourself?"

Al pretended to gag on his finger at the mention of his brother's cooking.  Then in a mocking tone, "of course!  I'm not a kid anymore."

"Could have fooled me!"  Arthur snipped back and grabbed his jacket.  The door slamming loudly behind him.

(f/n) giggled at the squabble between the two. But back to the task at hand.  "And the last question that will be on the test, Alfred."  He looked over the page.  "Who did Henry Tudor marry to unite the two houses?"

Alfred only pondered the question a second.  "Edward IV's daughter; Elizabeth of York!"

"That's right!"  (F/n) clapped his hands.  "I think you're going to pass this test with flying colours!"  That meant that Alfred wasn't going to need him anymore.

Shutting the book, he placed it back into his bag.  "I've got to get going."  He stood and swung the bag over his shoulder.

Alfred jumped from his spot on the floor and pulled him into a hug.  "I don't think I can thank you enough!"

He's got a strong hug! Screamed (f/n) in his mind, but blushed at the sheer closeness of the American.  And without warning Alfred lips were pressed to his.  Neither knew at that moment how it happened, it just had.

"I forgot…" Arthur interrupted the kiss.  "My wallet?"

(f/n) looked shocked at the English fellow and the America, quickly pushing past them both.   It was what he had longed for from Alfred, but it came out of nowhere.

"(f/n)!" Alfred shouted to the boy that ran out the front door.  Arthur placed a hand Alfred's shoulder to stop him.  "Let me go!"

"Hang on!" Arthur spun him around.  "What the heck was that about?"

"I…I don't know.  But it's not what you think it is!"  Alfred crossed his arms and could feel the tears threatening to break free.  He didn't want his brother judging him nor his friends.

"Why are you getting defensive with me?"  Arthur raised an eyebrow.  "I don't care what you do!  But…"

"But, nothing!" Alfred yanked his body away from his brother.  "I'm going to my room!  Just leave me alone!"

~time skip~

He couldn't even look (f/n) in the eyes.  And every attempt that (f/n) made to address the situation the American shut down.

But it was the day the test was being handed back.

"Good job, Mr. Jones." the teacher said and placed the paper in front of him.  A large 'A' sat on the top of the paper. The bell rang and into the hall all the students piled out of the classrooms.

"Did you pass?"  (f/n) asked Alfred who had his back to him and was leaning into his locker.

"Yeah," Alfred mumbled and grabbed his bag.

"I understand if you don't want to talk me."  (F/n) whispered.

"It's not you!"  Alfred turned quickly.  "It's me!"

"If it helps…I like you Alfred."  His (e/c) eyes looked deep into the American's.  "That's why I always look out the window. I'm thinking about you."

A streak of red over took Alfred's cheeks.  He was getting more then one answer that he had wondered too.

"Alfie!"  Mathias ran up to the speechless boy that hung on tight to his book bag.  "You're going to be late for practice!"

"Isn't he done with you?"  Gilbert tsked at the other that stood in front of them.

And off Alfred was dragged towards the opposite end of the hall. He glanced back at the boy that stood looking like he would break into a thousand pieces.

~time skip~

Alfred hadn't dared to talk to (f/n).  He was ashamed the way his heart ached for the boy.  He even had moved to the back of the class just to avoid to many awkward glances.

But it weighted heavy in his mind.  Did (f/n) mean that he 'liked' him?  He wasn't sure.

Then Arthur had given him the best advice he could have asked for. 'Follow your heart and live.'

Alfred sighed and held the two roses together in his hand.  It was time to start living.  He had to smile as he watched the boy walking down the hall carrying his book like always.  A victorious laugh escaped from Alfred as his thought of the reason.  All this had started over some fighting flowers.

A few things...sorry if it's not the best...It's my first male reader insert and I gave it a go...

I think I made the reader 'geeky'?

And I usually don't like the whole 'high school' thing, but I thought it was justifiable here.

And last - I included the Awesome Trio - because I can!! And Arthur - because I like him!!

And sorry for grammar and spelling
and I don't own hetalia or the characters!
